Art FOUNDATIONS – (1 unit, Gr. 9-12) – This class is a basic art education course using the elements and principles of art in many different ways.  The language of art uses basic elements and principles, increasing the ability to express oneself clearly when discussing art and improving the ability to produce art works.  Art I students learn to apply the principles and elements of design to their daily lives.  Supply fee of $15.00 required.

 

                   

 

 

Art HISTORY – (1/2 unit, Gr. 9-12) – No prerequisite.  This is a fine arts course that will use art history and projects “anyone” can do to learn how to objectively look at and discuss art.  This course is open to all students with or without artistic ability.

 

                       

 

2-D DESIGN – (1/2 unit, Gr. 10-12) – Students will further develop their skills to organize visual images through the use of the elements and principles of design.  Students will explore solutions to design problems through any two-dimensional medium or process, including, but not limited to, graphic design, collage, fabric design, illustration, painting, and printmaking.  Emphasis will be on creativity, composition and craftsmanship.  A sketchbook and portfolio will be required.  A supply fee of $10.00 is required.   

Prerequisite:  Completion of Art Foundations with a grade of C or higher.

 

                  

 

 ART PHOTOGRAPHY – (1/2 unit, Gr. 9-12) – This semester course examines how to see photographically by exploring the basic tools and techniques of traditional photography.  Students will learn basic skills in composition, film exposure, and development through a combination of lecture, demonstration and hands on learning. Prerequisite:  Art Foundations with a C or higher.  Supply Fee of $20.00.

 

    

 3-D DESIGN (SCULPTURE) – (1/2 unit, Gr. 10-12) – Students will develop their understanding of design principles as they relate to depth and space.  Students will explore problems through any three-dimensional materials or processes including, but not limited to, architectural models, jewelry, carving, and assemblage, figurative and non-figurative sculpture.  Emphasis will be on creativity, form, and craftsmanship.  A fee of $15.00 is required.

Prerequisite:  Completion of Art Foundations with a grade of C or higher.

 

        

 

Ceramics I – (1/2 unit, Gr. 9-12) – Students will create artwork using the three hand-building techniques; coil, slab, and pinch.  They will have an opportunity to explore and master finishing techniques.  Supply fee of $20.00 per semester required.  Prerequisite:  Completion of Art Foundation with a grade of C or higher.

 

        

 

CERAMICS II – (1/2 unit, Gr. 9-12) – This advanced ceramics class is designed to develop three-dimensional examples for college portfolios.  Students will develop skills related to hand building and wheel-thrown pottery.  Supply fee of $20.00 per semester required.  Prerequisite:  Completion of Ceramics I with a grade of C or higher.

 

     

 

DRAWING I – (1/2 unit, Gr. 10-12) – This is an introductory course designed for the beginning student to learn how one can express oneself through drawing.  Students will be given simple exercises and gradual skill-building assignments.  Students will experiment with various media and techniques, reinforcing the application of the elements and principles of design as they apply in drawing.  Students develop an increased awareness of observing in a unique manner.  Supply fee of $10.00.   

Prerequisite:  Completion of Art Foundations with a grade of C or higher.

 

                         

 

DRAWING II – (1/2 unit, Gr. 10-12) - Drawing II is a continuation and building upon skills learned in Drawing I.  Students continue to experiment with new techniques and materials as they apply to drawing, become more expressive, selective and working independently.  Emphasize placed on preparing work for college portfolio.  Supply fee of $10.00 per semester required.   

Prerequisite:  Completion of Drawing I with a grade of C or higher.

 

 

 

 

Painting I – (1/2 unit, Gr. 9-12) – An introductory course for the beginning student desiring to express oneself through primarily the use of color and shapes.  Students will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of techniques and styles of painting, as well as study how other artists express themselves in painting media.  Supply fee of $20.00 per semester required.    Prerequisite: Completion of Art Foundations with a grade of C or higher.

 

               

 

Painting II – (1/2 unit, Gr. 10-12) – This class is a continuation of Painting I with emphasis placed in working independently, exploring, developing and learning to control a preferred medium.  Students are encouraged to study other styles of painting, and incorporate them into their own styles.  Supply fee of $20.00 per semester required. Prerequisite: Completion of Painting I w/ a C.

 

              

 

PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT – (1 unit, Gr. 11-12) – This course is individually designed for the college-bound student or a student who shows particularly high level of excellence in art.  Every effort is made to work an art program into the student’s schedule on a daily basis.  This is a highly recommended program for both competition – and scholarship – oriented art students.  Instructor permission is required.  All advanced art courses will include portfolio demonstration.  Supply fee of $40.00 is required.

Prerequisite:  4 semesters of art with a B or Higher

 

             

 

AP STUDIO ART – (1 unit, Gr. 11-12) – Studio Art is intended for highly motivated students who are seriously interested in the study of art.  Among the many benefits to this honor level class, students who are successful can apply to skip one art class their freshman year of college.  Students will need to work outside the classroom and beyond scheduled art periods.  Maintaining a sketch book or journal is a necessary component of AP Art.  Your portfolio will be evaluated using national AP standards at the end of the school year.  Interested students may request an application from Mrs. Smith in room #1. Supply fee of $40.00  per semester.

Prerequisite:  6 semesters of art with an A average.
